A Child's View is the thirty-third episode of the anime.

Synopsis[]

Johan collapses after viewing a picture book.

Summary[]

In Munich, chldren have been falling off rooftops to their deaths. At the hospital, Dr. Reichwein is asked to talk to one of them, Martin, who just had surgery. While Dr. Reichwein leaves with Martin's mother, Dieter sneaks into the room. Dieter asks Martin if he was scared when he fell from the roof. Martin stands up and asks Dieter to pass his shoes. Martin and Dieter leave the hospital.

Martin and Dieter walk to a park, where Martin beats a hobo. Martin then explains that when he fell from the roof he was playing a game: two kids stand on the ledge of the roof of a building, close their eyes and then walk towards each other; if they actually made it that far, they would then try to push the other off. Martin mentions that the winners are the ones that lived, they are the chosen ones.

Martin tells that "a friend" taught him the game. Martin and Dieter go to a rooftop and Martin forces Dieter to play the game. Martin loses his balance and slips, but Dieter grabs his hand and saves him. Martin admits he was scared and that he would never be like Johan. Martin tells Dieter that Johan said he was going to be shot soon by a Japanese man.

Mr. Schuwald is planning to make a big book donation to the library of the University of Munich. Johan and Karl visit the library, since a ceremony will be held. Johan finds a copy of the picture book Obluda and passes out after looking it.

When Tenma finds out about the ceremony, he also visits the library, planning how to kill Johan.
