Synopsis[]

After Tenma learns the true identity of his lawyer and the plans to kill Eva because of what she knows, he considers fleeing the prison with Milch.

Summary[]

In prison, acting as his attorney Alfred Baul, Roberto tells Tenma that he is thinking of killing Eva because she already knows to much. Tenma tries to persuade Roberto into not doing it by arguing that Eva would never testify because all that she wants is to keep Tenma in prison as a reprisal for leaving her. Roberto says that Eva dead is convenient for both. After learning of Roberto's plans, Tenma decides to escape from prison and asks Gunther Milch for help.

Eva tells Fritz Verdemann her testimony about the night when she saw Johan after he killed Adolf Junkers. However, when she is asked by Verdemann if she would be willing to present her testimony in court, she refuses.

Tenma confesses to killing Udo Heinemann, Dr. Oppenheim, Dr. Boyer and Junkers in order to be transferred to a federal penitentiary in the same van as Milch.

Dr. Reichwein, Verdemann and Eva learn from the news that Tenma has confessed. Reichwein and Verdemann visit the station, but Tenma refuses to see his lawyer. Verdemann calls Alfred Baul and informs him about the situation. Baul asks Verdemann the name of the important witness who may prove Tenma's innocence: Eva Heinemann, who is staying in a hotel in Düsseldorf. Verdemann visits Eva at the hotel, asking her to testify so they can save Tenma, but she does not answer the door.

Eva remembers the time when she and Tenma were together and decides to testify to save Tenma. She calls Alfred Baul, after failing to reach Verdemann, to tell him that she is ready to speak and gives him the address of the hotel she is staying in.
