Sometime later, Eva was seen to be living well off her inheritance and divorce settlements where she has become an alcoholic, drowning her sorrows with alcohol. After the [[Culture#Heidelberg University|Heidelberg incident]], she was visited by [[Heinrich Lunge|Inspector Lunge]] to inquire about a necktie she supposedly gave as a gift to someone. Lunge asked her if she could recall whom she had given this very expensive article of clothing, but Eva only told him that she gave out so many presents that she couldn't remember the tie.  In reality, she remembered she'd given it to Kenzō Tenma. When Lunge left, it gave Eva an idea on how to get Tenma to take her back.

Eva went to the Eisler Memorial Hospital - her first time in 9 years since the death of her father. She was keen on making Tenma believe that they could start over, but Tenma was now cold to her and stated "there's no going back." She then let out her trump card: her knowledge of who owned the necktie that was found at the crime scene in Heidelberg Castle. She told him she would keep it a secret if Tenma agreed for them to become engaged again. However, Tenma stated there was something he had to set out to do and left.  Eva became angry and yell after Tenma of being an accomplice to the Heidelberg castle murder and responsible for her father's death.  She then contacted Lunge and confessed to him everything that she knew about the tie, as well as accusing Tenma of killing her father.

With Tenma on the run, Eva continued to badger Lunge about what he was going to do about Tenma and when would they find him, intent on having his life ruined. During this time, she was known to have been sleeping with at least one cheating husband (who she'd hidden a scented handkerchief on so his wife would find out he was cheating). Noticing her gardener watching this latest encounter, she became irritated, but soon started to see him as a new love interest and tried to make him act like Tenma. At one point he saw the photos of Tenma still on display, though Eva claimed she didn't love him, just wanted to see him ruined. The gardener concluded she must still have feelings for him to still have the photos framed, to which Eva went into a spiel that Tenma always tried to please her and would have made her happy. This left the gardener asking if she thought he'd ever be able to fill Tenma's shoes to ease her pain. At this, Eva insulted him and laughed in his face. Seeing through this act, the gardener told her she was a sad and lonely person and if she wished, to come by his house in a few days to celebrate Christmas with him and his daughter, Coletta. However, while Eva was on her way with a small gift, the gardener's ex-wife, Charlotte/Charlotta, drops by, asking him to forgive her for leaving. Eva showed up and, seeing the family laughing and enjoying themselves through the window, became angry and proceeded to set fire to her entire estate.

After degenerating into an alcoholic hotel-hopping lifestyle, Eva was picked up by the police for vagrancy. She was discharged from the police station the day after and walked around aimlessly, until she recalled she had been carrying a large bag before she passed out the night before. She went back to the police station but the desk officer told her she'd only been carrying her small handbag when she was taken into the police station.  Upon re-entering her room, Eva saw it had been ransacked, and having no more money to pay for the damaged lock and lost key, she had to leave the hotel.

Depressed upon the loss of her bag, which apparently held sentimental things, Eva wandered aimlessly and took a street bum's rum to soothe her alcoholic cravings. When her legs gave out, she sought a nearby bench and rested. Just then, [[Roberto]] approached her, saying the two of them had been drinking last night and that he wanted to give back the bag she left in the bar. They had lunch together at a restaurant and Eva checked the contents of her bag.

Eva showed Roberto the most prized possession Eva had been carrying around in that bag. It was the photo album that contained her pictures of her late father and her former fiancé. She was surprised to know that she has been talking about Tenma last night to Roberto, and she became defensive when Roberto inquired about a blank page from the album, saying she didn't want the pictures there so she had them removed.

Eva and Roberto spent the whole afternoon and evening drinking in a bar and talking about themselves. They realized they both have a common denominator upon hearing each other's stories, and they quickly formed a romantic relationship. Later that evening, Roberto showed his true intentions on befriending Eva: acquiring Johan's childhood photographs. Roberto beat Eva when she asked him what photos he was looking for. He insisted that Eva still has those photos and that he knows where Tenma is. Eva laughed hard telling him that the photos he most probably wants [[File:Vlcsnap-2013-05-27-10h03m52s27.png|thumb]] to get are those of Johan, and she just saw him a year ago in [[Düsseldorf]]. The next morning, Roberto awoke next to Eva and contemplated whether or not to eliminate her, but then, as he pointed his gun at the seemingly sleeping Eva, she spoke up, telling him about the incriminating incident she had seen.  Trying to buy time for herself and for Tenma, Eva made a bargain with Roberto: he would tell her where Tenma can be located in exchange for Johan's childhood photographs. To make sure Roberto would agree to her plan, she said that if she dies by his hands, the photographs would be automatically sent to the [[BKA]].
