Lunge's Trap is the twenty-second episode of the anime.

Short Summary[]

Lunge sets a trap for Tenma, but is wounded by the real criminal.

Summary[]

A middle-aged woman, Mrs. Jopp, has been killed in Hamburg and Inspector Lunge is investigating the case. Lunge tells Mr. Kipper, a journalist from The Hamburg Tag, that he suspects that Tenma might also be involved in the murder. Nevertheless, this is only a plot planned by Lunge to lure Tenma to the crime scene and catch him.

Mr. Kipper visits Lunge and tells him he has been investigating Mrs. Jopp's nephew, Mr. Ziebel, and that evidence seems to point out this case is not connected to the middle-aged couple's murders, he says that his paper will have to print a retraction. Lunge blackmails Kipper with telling his wife about an extramarital affair. Kipper gives up to Lunge's plot.

Tenma visits the crime scene and, after further inspection, realizes the crime was not committed by Johan. In that moment, Lunge arrives to the house and starts chasing Tenma. Tenma manages to escape through a window. Lunge is attacked by Mr. Ziebel with a knife. Mr. Ziebel confesses that he killed the Jopps, but Lunge shots him saying he has no interest in him.

Tenma tries to escape in his car but Lunge arrives just before he is about to go. Tenma notices that Lunge is severely wounded and drives him to a hospital. Lunge wakes up and struggles with Tenma, handcuffing him. Tenma leads the car into a warehouse.

Tenma asks Lunge for the keys for the handcuffs but Lunge pressures Tenma to confess for the murders. Tenma tells Lunge that he will die if he keeps loosing blood. Lunge faints. Tenma drives Lunge to a hospital.
