The Secret Woods is the twenty-sixth episode of the anime.

Synopsis[]

Schuwald hires a private investigator to look into Farren's death, while Johan manipulates Karl into believing Schuwald is his father.

Summary[]

Richard Brown, a private investigator and former police officer, is hired by Mr. Schuwald to investigate Edmund Fahren's suicide. Brown, who used to have problems with alcohol, consults his psychologist Dr. Reichwein about his opinion on the late Edmund's suicide. While investigating Edmund's dorm room, Brown finds a copy of The Gallic Wars by Julius Caesar with an underlined passage.

Karl meets Johan at the rooftop of one of the buildings of the university. Johan asks Karl to tell him about his past when he learns that Karl has been living in foster homes all his life. Karl tells Johan that he is Schuwald's son.

Lotte tells Karl that even since Edmund's death, Mr. Schuwald has been sad and does not eat much. She suggests to Karl telling Schuwald that he is his real son. Brown tells Schuwald that he does not think Edmund's death was a suicide and, against Schuwald's idea, tells him that it was not possible that Edmund was his son.

Karl and Lotte decide to take Schuwald to a forest that, according to Johan, is the place where Schuwald used to go to relax. When they arrive, the find out that the forest is not there anymore and that the lake has been dried and the whole place is now a construction site.

Brown visits Blue Sophie who tells him that she was visited by two groups of people with men claiming to be Schuwald's son: Karl and Lotte, and Edmund and a friend.
